Can anyone tell me if doing a secdary sch. course (11th,12th std) thru corresp. has any value outside India?

It is a 6 months to 1 year course offered by IGNOU, & other universities, Im just afraid it wont hold as much weight as a full time 2 year course. what should I do? Are there any colleges in India offering 2 year pre-university courses thru correspondence?
