Can you test the freshness of liver by placing it next to a gl of milk?

A friend of mine claims to have done a science experiment in school whereby a piece of liver was placed next to a gl of milk (cow's I guess). If the liver was fresh it would move itself up the gl towards the milk. She swears this is authentic but I'd like to think otherwise. Any ideas? Or complete wind-up?
