I have a Mac but can't get my free yahoo e-mail to work in Mac 'mail'. Googlemail works okay so why not yahoo?

I had to set up a googlemail account just to be able to work with the Mac Mail, and as no POP account worked I was told to use imap as the account type? I'm confused! I still would like to use my yahoo e-mail address in Mac's 'mail'. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not too computer literate so please make it simple to follow.
